Sailing Cleats, clutches, fairleads, and jammers are all used to fix and secure ropes and permit the use of other controls allowing adjustments when sailing. The use of each will normally depend on the load taken. Generally, cleats are good for low loads, clutches for medium loads, and jammers for high loads. Fairleads are for all purposes to ensure all lines are guided easily through to prevent tangle and twist.
